Windows 7 Build 7601 not genuine after installing Service Pack 1 FIX

OK  I've figured it out how to restore my previous Genuine licensed, after i got this message saying that my windows is not genuine. In my case i already applied RemoveWat 2.2.6 before i installed SP1,but then after i installed SP1 on my PC it was a mess.

After i installed SP1
After steps applied - or in your case the "Windows Activation" INFO may not appear, but that's fine.

IMPORTANT: For those who haven't  install SP1 patch and planning to install it.Manually download SP1[link below].First make sure you implement this two steps [1 and 7] and do this method here.
Install SP1 and do the entire process[1-7].

If SP1 installed already, apply the whole steps.

The validation and updates will still be available after you apply the steps.

GOOD LUCK!

1. First we need to Uninstall Windows Activation Technologies (WAT KB971033) it has to be removed before we proceed.

Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features and Click "View Installed Updates" on the upper left corner. Then right click to “Uninstall” the patch then press "Yes" as shown below.

Or Do this Manually
Go to "*\system32" folder and delete the folder 'Wat'(download TakeOwnership file here merge it to your registry).
2. Run RemoveWat 2.2.6 [Run as Administrator]Click "RemoveWat" button, then restart.Download link posted below.[If 'RemoveWat' button is not available, proceed step 3]

3. After you reboot repeat step 1 to check whether the (KB971033) patch is properly removed. If patch appeared on the list proceed to step 1 except step 2[if not on the list proceed step 3a] and after you “Uninstall” Patch (KB971033) on the second time open “Task Manager” Click on the “Processes” Tab, find “dllhost.exe” then End this Process.

[this is optional if you still have trial apearring on system properties or the not genuine message]
3a.Download this:
For 32bit OS -

Paste the file downloaded on *\windows\system32 folder, but first delete file 'systemcpl.dll' on
*\windows\system32 folder.

Click here to download TakeOwnership file and merge it to your registry,
Go to System32& Right Click the file "systemcpl.dll" Select "Take Ownership"
Right click systemcpl.dll file select Properties.Click "security" tab, click "Edit" button. And on every User names or Group below tick "Full Control" apply and delete the file.Paste the downloaded one.

3b. To remove watermark
use this method here

4. After reboot
Download my slmgr file, link posted below
For 32bit OS: paste it on "C:\Windows\System32" Folder
For 64bit OS: Paste it on "C:\Windows\SysWOW64" and "C:\Windows\System32"  folder.

5. Click Start Button and type “cmd” then important to run “CMD” as administrator.

On cmd type the following command “slmgr[space]-rearm” and a msgbox will appear says that you have to restart your pc press ok then restart.

6.After restart, run CMD as administrator type the following command "slmgr[space]-ato",press OK.[if error occur  ignore it].

Go to system32\en-US folder and delete the file "slui.exe.mui"

7. Click Start button type "Windows Update" and run,Click  "Change Seetings" and set "Important Updates" to "Let me choose whether to download or Install them" press Ok,click "Check for Updates".If windows finds an important update, click on it to verify.

If patch (KB971033) is on the list, right click then "Hide Update",else don't hide if its not (KB971033).

THEN RESTART PC.

I'm about to try this since the "not genuine" message came up today for the first time in about 4 months. KB971033 has been out of my system since then. Do I need to do anything differently?

I started the download of the Removewat program and my AVG called it Malware....Does anyone have any insight on this? Is AVG too sensitive or is it possible someone has hijacked the link?

I like all the positives above, but I'm not a power user and am a little leery of creating a bigger problem than I now have.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

ADMIN said...

It's false positive, disable your AV before you download RemoveWat.Skip step 1 and do step 2-6.Gudluck:-)

Anonymous said...

THX, it worked for me (Win7-64b) and I did procedure Feb 25. Unfortunately watermark comes back once in while... It seems to be linked with some MS applications like Media player unless they do random check through IP? I use the REARM & reboot and it solves it but my fear is that there maybe is a max number of rearm...?

ADMIN said...

Glad to head that:-)and no need to worry about max number of rearms, that wont happen because i mod the script.

Anonymous said...

I had the AVG false positive. All the steps worked, except the last. I seem to be having trouble. The activation window says "Product activation failed"

Anonymous said...

I get a "The activation server determined the specific product key is blocked" at last step

Whenever running the slmgr -ato command I get the following error:

Hi admin,

I think that KB971033 inside SP1 cause problem when SP1 is instaled, and question is how to uninstal this because it is not visible on list for instaled updates, but it is there ?
Question is also if there is difference in the contents of SP1 downloaded manualy from your link above, and the SP1 instaled via windows update function ?

I said it because my windows and updates worked fine undtil I instaled SP1. After that I got the message that this copy is not genuine etc. I removed SP1 but it didnt changed anything.
Yesterday I found your guide, did as described and as I could see it was successfuly done BUT it was without SP1.

I could not avoid, I wanted to see what will happen if I install SP1 again. I did it via windows update and after instalation it started to count down from 30 days.
I tryed to repeat steps from your guide but without success. It still count down.
When I visit windows update, it show that all important updates are instaled. KB971033 is not on the list. KB971033 is also not visible on the list of installed updates because many is hiden under service pack, but in a thir window, I can see that it has been instaled as last update. Problem is that I can not remove it from there, and I dont have access to it.
I supose suppose that I dont had success with your guide in second round because KB971033 is still there, and I guess that this is reason why some other also dont had success with this. I dont understand how some could do it while SP1 is instaled.
Hope that you understand above and have solution?
Best regards, ZS

Hi Admin,
Which of above solutions can stop counting down the days for activation ?
I use 32bit version.
I instaled SP1, got the not genuine message, removed SP1 and then used your guide in begining to fix it. It worked fine, but then I installed SP1 again, and then system began to count down the days.
I tryed to do it again but without luck.It seems that KB971033 cause problem. It is not visible on the list of instaled updates, but it is there, instaled together with SP1, I can not remove it and above guide dont work because its instaled. What to do ? Thanks for all !
Best regards, ZS

Hi admin,
For us who have installed SP1 and have time bomb because of this, is not possible to do the steps 1 and 7 regarding KB971033. I did these steps allready before I instaled SP1 and your guide worked fine for me, but after SP1 instalation, KB971033 has been installed again and it is not more on important or hiden update list.
KB971033 is part of the SP1 and question is how to uninstall it now from SP1 because it is not visible on the update list ??? Is there any difference between manual installation of SP1 and installation throught windows update ? To avoid KB971033, maybe is necessary to download and install SP1 manualy from your link above ?
Best regards, ZS

And oh by the way, in addtion to the above your antivirus wont recognize it as a virus, trojans or whatsoever harmful apps cuz its a clean one..

ADMIN said...

@ZS:sorry for the late reply.i am kinda busy testing stuff.i cant answer it right away, maybe after i finished this test.i am gathering information about the disadvantage and advantage of installing it using windows update or the manual update.well in my case i did installed it online using windows update, and after i installed SP1 then a message appeared said that "my copy is not genuine" when i checked on the installed updates KB971033 was on the list.and my problem solved after doing the steps i mention above.by the way i'm running 64bit ultimate i downloaded it on torrent site by BIE,its a OEM and already activated after you install the OS.

ADMIN said...

Updated post above[Important note,step 1 and 6]
ADDED - Step 6a

ADMIN said...

On second thought,RemoveWat doesnt disable the time bomb.what i did was after i installed a clean copy of windows 7[not activated]and run RemoveWat,then i run CMD and type the ff command "slmgr -xpr" it shows that the time bomb is still functioning, and basically what RemoveWat did is only to remove Activation Info Section on System Properties[Windows Key + Pause Break] and tampered 1 file on system32\en-US folder.

If you implement method i mention above[UPDATED]

it will defused the bomb!

Well, guess what happened after the update?
The watermark THIS COPY OF WINDOWS IS NOT GENUINE re-appeared again!

So I'm back to follow your step by step, inlcuding the ones, of course, that allow me to re-enable the minimize, maximize and exit buttons that the remove wat disabled for unknown reason...

Just double click the "take ownership.reg" file. and click Yes.

Hi admin, I followed every steps. Now the 'Windows is activated' and the product number is no longer appearing in the system properties window (windows button + pause break button). I also can't do Windows Update and the not genuine message is permanently showing on the desktop. Previously after applying slmgr -ato, the message will go away but return on & off. This time after applying slmgr -upk, the not genuine message sits permanently. What should I do next?

Anonymous said...

Hi Admin. First of all, thanks for your useful suggestion. I applied all the steps and everything is run without problem. Now the system ask to put the "product key" and running slmgr -xpr a windows shown error "Impossible to find "product key"". Do you have any suggestion ? Thanks in advance for your help.

ADMIN said...

Did you do this method mention here:
http://processorcores.blogspot.com/2011/02/how-to-remove-this-copy-of-windows-is.html

The message "This copy of windows in not genuine" should not supposed to appear after you apply the method. what error you get when you check for an update?

hmm there is no such thing as "Impossible to find a product key" can u give me a screenshot where the system ask you a product key? the file that is responsible for that message shouldn't be working after you applied Remove Wat. the system shouldn't be asking you a key.ill look forward into that.

Hey, I did everything as it said and rebooted, but as windows was starting up, it told me that a setting had been changed and it asked me to enter a product key. As a result, my windows is still not genuine.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

ADMIN said...

Run CMD as admin, enter this command "slmgr -ipk[space]22TKD-F8XX6-YG69F-9M66D-PMJBM"

the command should install a new product key for your OS.if successfully installed, restart your pc or email me if it is invalid.

After restart Run CMD as admin. enter the command "slmgr -rearm",restart your pc.

and after that check it using "slmgr -xpr" as you mention before. if it says "30 days to activate" then repeat the entire steps 1-6 and 7 except 6a.

Anonymous said...

Regarding my previous post that the not genuine message stays permanent after applying slmgr -upk it's now working fine.

I redo steps 1, 2 & 3 but not 3a. I deleted your systemcpl.dll file and put back my original systemcpl.dll in system32 folder. Then I continued with steps 4, 5 & 6 without applying 6a. Finally I followed your Remove Watermark guide and the not genuine message was gone after reboot. It has not appeared for the last 2 days & I assume it is now fixed.

FYI, when I launch system properties thru windows key + pause break, I can see Windows Activation with 'status not available" and 'product ID not available'. It didn't bother me because I can continue to update.

Hopefully this is finally fixed.

Thanks again Admin for the great work.

Hi Admin, after receiving your reply asking me to overwrite the systemcpl.dll file with your file, I tried to do a Windows Update but got an error message code 80070002. Therefore, I followed your instruction and deleted my old systemcpl.dll file and put in your new file. Then I reboot the pc. When I tried to do Windows Update again, I got the same error code 80070002.

What's wrong again? Do I need to redo the slmgr -rearm, reboot then slmgr -ato steps again?

I need to be able to do Windows Update after deleting the not genuine message.

Please help. Thanks

ADMIN said...

Try this:
To resolve Code 80070002 ERROR:
Click start button type 'services.msc' on services right click 'windows update' and select Stop[don not close services]

Then go to *\windows\SoftwareDistribution folder, double click "DataStore" folder.Delete all files and folder inside..Click Back button,in the SoftwareDistribution folder double click 'Download' folder and delete all files and folders inside..

Go to Services right click 'Windows Update' select Start.and restart pc

your windows update should work after.

ADMIN said...

OK,restore your original systemcpl.dll file and go to System32\en-US folder and overwrite the file "systemcpl.dll.mui" with this
http://www.mediafire.com/?slyzx1w85dqxo5g.

Anonymous said...

Hi Admin, I have tried method 1 for error code 80070002 & also method 2 restoring systemcpl.dll file as shown above but have been unsuccessful.

I'm still getting error 80070002 & no longer can do Windows Update.

Also tried to slmgr -rearm & it was ok but couldn't get past slmgr -ato because I got a "error product not found" message & can't proceed further.

Should I take out my Windows 7 DVD and do a repair? Is it gonna reset everything to original state so that I can redo steps 1 to 7?

Hello Admin
Unfortunately, it still has not worked. I ran CMD and entered the slmgr followed by the product key you gave me, a message then appeared which accepted the key from "windows file host" but I then restarted the computer to find that windows still wasn't genuine. I then ran CMD again and entered the slmgr followed by "rearm" and restarted again but windows is still not genuine.
I really appreciate what you have done for me.
Thank you for your help so far.

Hey again,
Still getting error 80070002. I've deleted my "DataStore" and "Download" folder contents with Windows Updates stopped but after I restart, the DataStore contents return and I still get the error. I haven't removed the watermark yet because it doesn't annoy me that much. yet.

Any ideas?

Also, under my computer, properties, Windows Activation, if it says status not available and product ID: not available, that's good right?

Thanks again in advance

Many Thanks! I followed your instructions after getting the dreaded "Win 7 build 7601 not genuine" error after installing service pack 1 and now it has been running fine for a week now. I installed the updates for the x64 based systems this week after being notified and so far everything is still good.

ADMIN said...

@Trushy:
Run CMD as admin, enter this command "slmgr -ipk[space]22TKD-F8XX6-YG69F-9M66D-PMJBM"

Then redo Step 1,2 and 3.

Okay... I've been running W7 SP1 since it launched, but only *today* does the 'not genuine' watermark appear. I assume I have 30 days to apply the rather insanely convoluted steps listed above to correct winblowz evil scheme to nuke my system?

I eagerly await the much more simple approach you hope to release on the 25th, as I most certainly do not want to risk the dozens of virus laden hacks, cracks, and keygens popping up out there. I've been running the previous version of your app swimmingly since it was released...

Though the dual boot issue is annoying (not sure if it's the system or the app, both 'boots' are identical).

Thanks for your hard work!
Peace

Tushy said...

After running cmd with the command you specified, I can now update windows but the timer is back. While trying to complete step 3a, I cannot delete the file systemcpl.dll before pasting your version. I also cannot change the permissions on the file to allow me to delete it.

Tushy said...

Ok. Got it now! The instructions for applying the take ownership.reg file follow the removal and replacing of the systemcpl.dll file. Since I was unable to remove and replace I stopped there. Maybe you should switch them in your instructions.

Now there is no entry under Windows Activation, no watermark and I just updated windows.

You rock!

BTW, I never download the Windows Malicious Software tool - what your thought on that update?

Thanks for everything!

Anonymous said...

Thanks a ton. This worked perfect. You may want to update to mention that if WAT is already installed you should uninstall it and install it again. That's what I did and it worked like a charm.

Thanks

I have few things that cannot follow precisely. Like i can't replace "systemcpl.dll" :(

remove WAT does not work on my computer at all

however, its looks fine now .. hopefully it is fine =)
Just to let you know =)

Hello,
thank you for your effort. I have a doubt.
I followed all the tutorial and seems that everything worked for me, but after the last rebot, my system properties doesn't show any information about windows activation. Is it correct? After I installed RemoveWat, it simply disappeared from this window.

Thank you.

Anonymous said...

Hi, I did all your steps. It removes all the windows genuine notifications except the one in control panel. Can you help me? Thanks.

Anonymous said...

OMFG I LOVE YOU SO MUCH.
(First, forgive me for my english, i'm french).
I had the issue with the 30 days activation after installing W7 SP1.
I couldn't find any useful tips and after trying to apply RemoveWat again (after the update KB971033 auto-installed), I decided to uninstall it and apply RemoveWat again. But it didn't work at all. So, as sad as I was, I considered buying a Windows 7 Ultimate original copy.
But when I tried (before buying) to check if I was even able to change my product key, I had the issue with "slui.exe" saying "Windows cannot acces....". And everything I tried was unsucessul. So, why buying an original copy if I even CAN'T change the serial ?!...

I followed every step you gave, and it looks like I have no more issue. Windows seems to run great.

So : THANK YOU.

But I just had a little problem during the "delete the "systemcpl.dll" file" step, even with "taking ownership" and modifying permisions on it, it said "Can't delete because it is already opened", actually it was exporer.exe. I just used a little software called "Unlocker" to remove that dependency, and here I go, I could delete it.

Thanks again bro.
Best regards from France.
